Residential areas: Anna Jacobapolder. Facts, DNA and other details

Anna Jacobapolder is famous!

At the extreme tip of the island of Sint Philipsland, Anna Jacobapolder is the smallest and youngest core within the municipality of Tholen. In the 50s, Anna Jacobapolder was mainly known for the ferry to Zijpe, near Bruinisse on the island of Schouwen-Duiveland. In case of fog or bad weather conditions, that ferry was shut down and this invariably made it to the national traffic jam reports, with delays of a few hours being the rule rather than the exception. This ferry was eventually taken out of service after a smoother and more reliable connection was created over the dams and bridges that have already been constructed.

From 2009 there is again a ferry, which during the summer months brings pedestrians and cyclists to the other side. A short, wonderfully nostalgic trip, with which you arrive at the other side completely relaxed, when the weather is good of course.

In the old ferry house of Anna Jacobapolder is now restaurant 't Veerhuis established. Here you will also find the comfortable Hotel Oosterschelde on, with a phenomenal view over the busy Mastgat. Read more about the former ferry here.
