Old Vossemeer. Nice on the border of Zeeland and Brabant

The place Oud-Vossemeer was part of the seigniory of Oud- en Nieuw-Vossemeer. Today they are two different villages, separated by the busy Scheldt-Rhine Canal. Oud-Vossemeer is located in Zeeland and Nieuw-Vossemeer in North Brabant. The picturesque village is surrounded by vast, fertile polders. Admire the Dutch Reformed Church, the Ambachtsherenhuis, the Blacksmith's Bell and the 'De Jager' flour mill.

Let yourself be carried away by the special history of this small village that has close ties to the well-known Presidential Family Roosevelt from the United States. In the early 17th century, the ancestor of the Roosevelt family emigrated from Oud-Vossemeer to New York. The family's Coat of Arms still hangs in the Craftsman's House in which it is today Roosevelt Information Center is situated. A monument depicting the four freedoms as once formulated by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt commemorates this bond.

The Roosevelt's House is not only a cozy brasserie, but also the base to get to know this special Thoolse core. Catholic and Brabant influences are visible and tangible in Oud-Vossemeer, among other things through the exuberant celebration of carnival. Oud-Vossemeer is also the starting and finishing point every year for the well-known and challenging Zevendorpen Wandeltocht that takes walkers throughout the municipality of Tholen.
