Mill De Jager

Molen De Jager: a historic tower mill in Oud-Vossemeer

In the Netherlands you will find countless historic windmills that have played an important role in the economic development of the country. One of these special windmills is Molen De Jager in Oud-Vossemeer, a tower mill built in 1850.

The tower mill owes its name to the blades that are accessible to the miller via a scaffolding and has a "flight" of no less than 18,50 meters, which means that the blades of the mill have a length of 18,50 meters. It is an impressive sight to see these large blades in action as they turn the mill.

Visit Mill De Jager

One of the highlights of a visit to Molen De Jager is seeing the grinding stones and the way they are used to grind wheat. The mill is equipped with two pairs of grinding stones: a pair of blue stones made of basalt lava from the German Eifel and a pair of artificial stones composed of different types of natural stone. The blue stone is used to grind wheat, while the artificial stone was mainly used for grinding animal feed.

A visit to Molen De Jager is a great way to learn more about Dutch history and the traditional way of milling wheat. It is also a great opportunity to explore the beautiful surroundings of the mill and enjoy the scenery. Visitors can view the inside of the mill, take a guided tour (Saturdays only) and learn about the history of this special mill.
