About this detour Sint-Maartensdijk

For this walking route (black line on the map below) you follow the green signs with the yellow direction arrows with the icon of the coat of arms of Sint-Maartensdijk: the hare. The length is 5,7 km. You can also extend the route via the other (junction) numbers of the walking network.

Sint-Maartensdijk takes its name from Saint Martin. The church is a late Gothic pseudo-basilica. The construction of the church probably started in the 14th century. The tower is characterized by the white 'lantern', rebuilt after a lightning strike in 1588. In a niche in the church, the grave of Floris van Borsselen and his wife Oede van Bergen, which was heavily damaged during the French period, can be found. Special in the church are the fourteen sculpted heads on the support beams of the vaults. They may represent Countess Jacoba van Beieren and members of her court.

This walking route takes you over a remaining part of these ramparts, past monuments and other places of interest.
