Poortvliet, from historic walk to wonderful home shopping

Poortvliet is really a ring village, founded in the 13th century. The village is located in one of the oldest dikes and in the largest polder of the island of Tholen between Tholen-stad and Scherpenisse. What stands out when you enter the village is the large Gothic church on the ring road. The church was badly damaged by fire during the Eighty Years' War, but was later restored. This church shows that Poortvliet was an important place in the Middle Ages.

When you visit Poortvliet, take a look at 't Ouwe Raad'uus, a large 18th-century residence that was converted into a town hall in 1836. Surrounded by a beautiful garden with a water feature, you can imagine yourself back in the 19th century here. Flour mill 'De Korenaar' from 1710 is also not to be missed. In addition to wandering around the historic part of Poortvliet, it is also fun shopping. Woonboulevard Poortvliet has given the village regional fame. No less than 50.000 m2 and 32 home furnishings stores ensure a wonderful day of home furnishings shopping.
