The story of: Marlies Turner van 't Wienuus in Tholen

Marlies Draaier has been the face of Liquor Store and gift shop 't Wienuus since 2014 in the heart of historic Tholen on the Botermarkt. Marlies is assisted by two permanent employees. A wide range of high-quality products is offered, from domestic beers to nice souvenirs and from delicious wines to stronger stuff. But her tastings of whisky, wine and beer in local catering establishments also provide additional visitors to this spacious and tasteful store.

“Of course, the customers of 't Wienuus mostly come from the core of Tholen, but certainly also from the rest of the island. Even from Steenbergen and Halsteren people know how to find their way across the bridge to the city center of Tholen and to our store. If a large part of our customers go on holiday in the summer, that gap is perfectly filled by the growing number of tourists who visit Tholen. That compensates each other very well," says Marlies.

Consulting and packaging

“Our store has an extensive range of wine, specialty beer, whiskey and other spirits. The large selection makes it extra fun to have a special package put together for a birthday or as a gift for someone who is celebrating an anniversary or has graduated from school. Such a unique package is beautifully wrapped and so the buyer always looks good”, laughs Marlies. Due to the personal approach and tailor-made advice, the customer experiences a particularly customer-friendly treatment. Advising and packaging are two important qualities of Marlies and her employees. 

From a fool to something serious

The current attractive corner building on the Botermarkt has been a liquor store for a long time and it has been run by Marlies Draaier for about 7 years now. “It started like crazy and I had no intention of starting a liquor store at all, but I did want to start something for myself”, says Marlies. When she heard that the liquor store would be for sale, she inquired with the previous owner. She then had to wait a while for the redeeming answer. How it ended can be guessed. In any case, she works every day with great pleasure. “It's always fun with us, we have a bond with our regular customers. A chat, a sweetheart. Apparently customers are satisfied, because they come back.” Nothing is too much, everything is possible at 't Wienuus. They are available day and night for customers and deliver within the entire municipality and, where necessary, also on the other side of the Eendracht. Since this year, 't Wienuus has been a member of the Wine Circle and a nice folder is published every quarter with recipes, wines and fun promotions.
