Village community Sint-Annaland

Village community Sint-Annaland: what exactly is that?

Who is that, the village community? What are those people doing? Can I go there with questions or complaints about facilities in the village? Just a few of the questions that are regularly asked or the subject of discussion when it comes to Village Community Sint-Annaland. Are you curious about the answers to these questions? Then read on quickly!

It is not very surprising that it is not entirely clear what the Sint-Annaland Village Community (hereinafter referred to as: the village community) is and what this club does. The village community (officially an association and founded in 1960) is mainly active in the background. Like any association, the village community also has members. In addition to both primary schools, almost all associations and foundations in Sint-Annaland are members. These associations, foundations and schools join forces together. For example, regular consultations take place between the members about the organization of activities or policy matters. Last year, the first chairpersons meeting also took place, during which the chairpersons exchanged ideas about topics and problems that occur at each school, association or foundation. In this way, the village community is a platform for and a link between its members.

Village interests
But can I, as a resident, also turn to the village community for various matters concerning the village? The answer to this is initially no. If you have questions or complaints about, for example, weed control, parking problems, the construction of houses, facilities, etc., you should contact the relevant counter at the municipality, for example. In addition, a problem often relates to a specific street or neighbourhood. In such cases it is much more effective to join forces with the neighbours.
The village community has been consulted regularly in the past on general matters and interests that concern the entire village. Consider, for example, the developments around the port. In addition, Entrepreneurs' Association Activa is committed to matters relating to the Voorstraat, Havenplein and industrial estate, and the Anna Care Cooperative Cares for all matters and interests related to the theme of (elderly) care. As you can see, the general village interests are well guarded by these three organizations: Activa, Anna Zorgt and the village community. Other authorities, such as the municipality, also know how to find their way to these three organizations and know which issue to put where. Incidentally, Activa and Anna Zorgt are also members of the village community and thus strengthen this umbrella body. Together, all members of the village community ensure that it is pleasant to live in Sint-Annaland!

King's Day and commemoration 4 & 5 May
The mission of the village community states, among other things, that the association wants to activate cultural life and achieves this by organizing events and activities. One of those activities is King's Day. For many years, the coordination of this festive day has been in the hands of the village community. Various members, such as the Royal Fanfare Accelerando, Streekmuseum de Meesteve, football association WHS, both primary schools, Care Cooperative Anna Zorgt and Het Schorrekoor, organize various activities on and around King's Day. The village community ensures that all parts of the program fit together. She also takes care of joint publicity. The village community is also responsible for organizing the aubade. Once every five years, in addition to King's Day, extra attention is paid to Remembrance Day and Liberation Day on 4 and 5 May. The last time was in 2015. At that time there was a memorial service followed by a wreath laying at the war graves and a festive procession on Liberation Day. The village community also has a coordinating role in these activities.

Future
Together with all its members, the village community is committed to the quality of life in Sint-Annaland. In the various consultations, for example, the future of associations, facilities and Sint-Annaland in general is considered. But also very important, the PR of our beautiful village. Because Setallanders are a modest people and we should be a little more proud that things are well arranged. Then we make our village even more attractive for tourists and future residents! However, keeping Sint-Annaland livable is not just a task for the village community and its members. It is a task and responsibility of every resident. Because you are a member of an association, make your purchases in Sint-Annaland, visit activities, help organize activities, etc. we keep our beautiful village liveable together with all more than 4.000 inhabitants!
