The Meestew

Regional Museum De Meestew. Irish bluff your chick!

Have you always wanted to know how people used to live and where they worked? How did people in the past actually dress in the traditional Dutch costume? What did a school class look like in 1910? And how did the children learn in those days? Regional Museum De Meeeloos provides a nice overview of the former life and culture on the islands of Tholen and Sint Philipsland.

The museum, located in the former town hall of Sint-Annaland, in addition to a thematic exhibition that changes per season, also has an extensive permanent collection with historical items that come from the island of Tholen and Sint Philipsland. The collection is composed of collector's items and legacies. The permanent collection is housed in the main building and the adjoining barns. The Norwegian gift house on our property is a museum piece in itself and can also be viewed.

The permanent collection includes:

  • Regional costume (clothing and jewellery)
  • Period room (authentic furnished living room)
  • Old Dutch toys
  • Excavations (shards and other treasures)
  • Doctor's Attributes
  • madder industry
  • A furnished workshop (Old Dutch crafts)
  • Carts, carriages and agricultural machinery
  • Chris Lanooy (ceramic)
